There are 23 full-time faculty members, including 7 professors, 11 associate professors, 3 lectures，6 doctoral supervisors and 14 master supervisors. There are two scientific research teams speciallized in advanced polymer molding technology and equipment and aviation transmission and intelligent robot. In recent years, researchers have undertaken more than 20 national scientific research projects such as 973, 863, NSFC major international (regional) joint project and more than 10 provincial and ministerial level scientific research projects such as Key R & D projects in Hunan Province, science and technology support program, Natural Science Foundation etc.. In terms of talent development, the Department of mechanical manufacturing and automation has undertaken the training for more than 130 undergraduate students in mechanical manufacturing and automation and mold design and manufacturing, and one experimental class as "intelligent manufacturing talent development plan". It also undertakes the teaching tasks of three basic courses including principles of mechanical manufaturing processes, Interchangeability and measurement technology and mechanical engineering materials for undergraduate and the training for more than 30 doctors and masters every year.

Major directions

Mechanical manufacturing and automation is a superiority branch with a long history. There are a group of teachers with rich practical experience and strong scientific research ability, and they train senior engineering talents engaged in scientific research, design and manufacture.

Mold design and manufacturing has been recruiting undergraduates since 1993. This direction covers the structural design of non-metallic and metal molding parts, molding process analysis and simulation, mold design and manufacturing, molding process automation, etc.

The "intelligent manufacturing talents development plan" faces to the national strategic needs of "made in China 2025", aiming to train students to have a solid foundation in mechanical engineering and also minor in artificial intelligence, Internet and other emerging information technologies.
